Two more offenders detained following proactive police work at Sainsbury’s Local, Brighton Road |

Officers from the South Croydon Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) have arrested and charged two men following a proactive policing operation at Sainsbury’s Local, 51 Brighton Road, South Croydon.
On a targeted patrol, officers observed suspicious behaviour from two males—Gary Egan and Daniel Lyons—and detained them as they exited the store. Both men had stolen £81.32 worth of fish fillets, which were recovered at the scene.
Further checks revealed that Gary Egan was also in possession of a bladed article and was wanted on recall to prison. Egan was subsequently charged and convicted for: He was sentenced to 2 months’ imprisonment, ordered to pay a £187 fine, and will additionally serve the remainder of his previously imposed sentence.
Daniel Lyons was charged with shoplifting and received:
Sergeant Aaron Bawden, South Croydon SNT, said: “This is the fourth and fifth offender my team have successfully dealt with in recent weeks following proactive patrols targeting local shoplifting and repeat offenders. Our officers remain committed to supporting local businesses, reducing crime, and keeping South Croydon safe. We will continue to take firm and proportionate action against those who repeatedly harm our community.” | ||
